Lesson Observations

Lesson Observations are a powerful way to improve one’s teaching and learning.

Step 1 – Choose a Data Observation Sheet

Step 2 - Choose a Lesson to Observe

Thinkdrive has developed 3 x Classroom video footage. Here is one for practise:

Step 3 - Conduct the Lesson Observation and complete the Data Observation Sheet

Step 4 - Feedback

Provide feedback to the teacher based on your Data Observation Sheet. Thinkdrive uses an Assertive Conversation Model.

Step 5 - Goal Setting

As a result of the lesson observations, the teacher should set 3-5 goals.

• What resources / activities are needed to achieve these goals?
• What types of evidence can be used to indicate progress towards these goals?

• Microteaching - analysis, reflective teaching, videotaped role play with debriefing: effect size = 0.88

Note: An effect size of 1.0 would improve the rate of learning by 50% and would mean that, on average, students receiving that treatment would exceed 84% of students not receiving that treatment.
